Final steps to completely remove the installation!

As part of the installation of Spacilus you changed your browsers proxy settings in order for Spacilus to "see" all search engine pages your web browser would request from the internet. Now that you removed Spacilus from your system, you also need to restore your browsers original proxy settings.

If your browser was configured to use a proxy server, then please locate the original proxy configuration that you where asked to write down and store in a safe place during installation of Spacilus. If you missplaced that information, please ask your system administrator or your Internet service providers support hotline for it, before you continue.

Expert users might find all the information they need at the bottom of this page.

Step-by-step instructions

Please choose your web browser:
Microsoft Internet Explorer
Mozilla Firefox

Remark for people using other browsers: Setting proxy server information goes along pretty much the same lines with all browser brands, so try to take the following examples as a starting point and if that doesn't help you, a good friend with some technical experience sure will;-)

Instructions for Microsoft Internet Explorer

1. Open Internet Explorer, click on Tools and then on Internet Options to open the Internet Options dialog.

2. Click the dialogs Connections tab. Then, depending on the type of your internet connection, either click the LAN Settings button if you are not using a dial-up connection ...

3. ... or click your dial-up connections Settings button.

4. If your browser originally was not configured to use a proxy, uncheck the "Use a proxy server..."-box,  close all open dialogs by clicking Ok, two times and continue with step 6! Otherwise leave the "Use a proxy server..."-box checked and click the Advanced button.

5. Please enter your original proxy address and port number in the line labeled "HTTP:" and close all open dialogs by clicking Ok, three times.

6. Close all open Internet Explorer windows, then start a new one and point it to http://www.google.com. If everything went Ok, you should see the Google homepage without the Spacilus menu on top. Now, you have finished uninstalling Spacilus!

Instructions for Mozilla Firefox

1. Open Firefox, click on Tools and then on Options to open the Options dialog.

2. Next, click the Connections Settings button.

3. If your browser originally was not configured to use a proxy, select "Direct connection to the Internet", close all open dialogs by clicking Ok, two times and continue with step 4! Otherwise enter your original proxy address and port number in the line labeled "HTTP Proxy:" and close all open dialogs by clicking Ok, two times.

4. Start a new instance of Firefox, point it to http://www.google.com and perform a web search. If everything went Ok, you should see the Google search result page without the Spacilus menu on top. Now, you have finished uninstalling Spacilus!

Instructions for expert users:

  • Change your browsers HTTP-proxy settings back to their original state - the one your wrote down after you installed Spacilus.
    • Make sure that you change the HTTP proxy only! Please leave all other proxy settings (ftp, https, etc.) as they were.
  • For some browser to accept the configuration change, you need to close them and open them again.
  • You are all set now. Open http://www.google.com and the Spacilus menu should have vanished from the top of the page.
